You can Psshaw the myth about holiday weight gain

22 Nov

Gaining a ton of weight during a holiday is a myth.  Maybe it is good that we greatly exaggerate a bit so that we can put some scale.jpgstops into how much we consume. According to the New England Journal of Medicine, research has been done on this subject and they found that the average person gains a pound or two during the holiday period. Now that aint too bad eh?  It is when we keep on eating after the holiday and suddenly realize that our pants not fitting as loosely as it did we blame it on the holiday.  The bad news it that most people do not bother to lose the pound or two they put on during the holidays. That’s not good.  You have to address the matter asap.

However, for people who are already overweight, the holiday weight news is worse. Although the average gain is only one pound, people who are already overweight tend to gain a lot more  as much as five pounds or more. Thanksgiving marks the beginning of a “high risk” time for the overweight. “I think the number of people who only overeat at the Thanksgiving meal is slim to none,’’ said  one researcher. “The holiday season doesn’t represent one day of overeating. You have this period that extends through the new year where there’s more alcohol, more snacks, more finger foods and appetizers that are energy dense.’’

The best thing is to watch what you eat, continue with your exercise and as soon as the Thanksgiving feast is over, return to your regular fare of food.
