Drug Sample Scam

8 Jan

While free drug samples given to doctors are supposed to be for the poor and needy, those without insurance coverage, recent research by Harvard University researchers discovered that contrary to the alleged intent of these drugs, they end up benefiting those with insurance and those who can afford to buy their own drugs. What they also found is that the drugs instead of focusing on helping out the poor are used more as a marketing tool to help promote their particular brand of drugs.

Researchers found that more than 12 per cent of Americans received free drug samples in 2003 of whom fewer than a third were considered low income.  The retail value of some 16.4 billion worth of free drugs were given out in 2004 but the poor were not the main beneficiaries.

What is it they say?  The rich gets richer and the poor diddly squat?
