Ornaments Recalled by Health Canada

oramentrecall.jpgHealth Canada on Tuesday announced a recall of certain holiday ornaments and children’s jewelry, saying the items contain unsafe levels of lead.The recall applies to the following items:

  • 2006 Snow Princess Stirrup Ornaments.
  • 2007 Holiday Stirrup Ornaments.
  • 2007 Photo Frame Horse Shoe Ornaments.
  • Crystal Innovations jewelry pieces.

 Health Canada has announced a recall of about 455 ornaments because they contain high lead levels.

The recall affects about 455 ornaments sold through independent retailers in Canada from July 2006 through December 2007 for between $15 and $18. The jewelry pieces were sold in Michael’s stores across the country from April 2006 through September 2007 for about $5.The products were all manufactured in China.High amounts of lead can harm the nervous system, kidneys and other major organs. Anemia, a decline in red blood cells, can occur, as well as damage to the nervous system that may impair mental function. At worst, lead poisoning can cause seizures or death.No adverse health effects have been reported to Health Canada.
